About Underline Text
Underline text uses Unicode combining character U+0332 (Combining Low Line) placed after each letter to draw an underline. Like the strikethrough combining character, this works anywhere Unicode renders — producing underlined text in platforms that have no native underline formatting option.
Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter have no built-in underline support for regular text fields. Unicode combining underline fills this gap. It is particularly useful for highlighting URLs that cannot be made into actual hyperlinks (Instagram bios), emphasizing key terms in captions, or creating visual structure in longer posts.
Discord has native underline Markdown (__text__), but Unicode combining underline creates a visually different effect — it can be combined with Unicode font styles in ways Discord's Markdown cannot, and it produces a slightly different visual position and thickness.
Combining underline with other styles creates a range of useful effects: bold underline for strong headings, cursive underline for elegant emphasis, and gothic underline for dramatic structure.
